A Brief, Possibly Incomplete History of Beer Taverns
Beer taverns have been around for ages, allegedly.
Prehistory (circa 500 BCE): The Ancient Ones
Our ancestors, the ancient Greeks and Romans, drank their wine from jugs and whatnot. They didn't have the luxury of our modern glassware, but they made do with whatever they had. We're pretty sure they'd be impressed by today's craft beer scene.
Middle Ages (circa 1200 CE): The Medieval Mess
Beer was a staple of life, but it wasn't always the clean, safe drink we enjoy today. Our medieval forebears likely drank from whatever they found, including wooden vats and, uh, questionable water sources. Don't try this at home, folks.
Wild West (circa 1800s CE): The Rowdy Roots
The Wild West saw the rise of saloons and, subsequently, rowdy behavior. Our cowpokes and outlaws drank their way through saloon doors, guns, and, occasionally, each other. Yeehaw!
