Here are the basic rules:
Rule 1: You start with 5 lives. Don't worry, you'll probably lose them all anyway.
Rule 2: Each hex tile has a unique challenge or reward. Be careful what you step on, or you might end up in a world of pain.
Rule 3: You can't go back on your own. Once you step on a tile, you're stuck with it.
Rule 4: Don't try to outrun the aliens. You'll just end up getting chased in a circle for eternity.
