Surrealist Manifesto: Chapter 3-2

In which we delve into the very fabric of reality.

The Illusory Condition

A surrealist's greatest trick is to make you question the question, and then question the question that questions the question.

Or, as we call it, the infinite regress of doubt.

In this chapter, we'll explore the ontological implications of uncertainty, and how the very fabric of reality is woven from the threads of our own perceptions.

Case Study: The Uncertain Observer

Meet Jane, a woman who can't decide what to have for breakfast. Should she have eggs, or perhaps a bowl of cereal? The choice is hers, but what if she can't even decide what a choice really is?

This is the classic example of the surrealist's conundrum: the observer is always uncertain, and the observed is always subject to interpretation.
