Stone Temple Pilots: The Formation of Awesomeness

History of Formation

The Stone Temple Pilots formed in 1983 in San Diego, California, by brothers Dean and Earl Warren, along with vocalist Scott Weiland and guitarist Eric Perilous.

However, the band's true formation began in 1992 with the addition of bassist Robert "Shawn" Lane.

The band's original name was Gypsy Chief, but they changed it to Stone Temple Pilots in 1987, allegedly due to the fact that they were huge fans of the band Guns N' Roses.

They released their debut album, Core, in 1990, which featured the hit single "Sex as a Weapon."

The band went on to release several other albums, including Purple and Turf.

However, the band's true formation began in 1996 with the release of No One's's Landing which was a critical and commercial success.

In 2002, the band released Saint, which featured the hit single "It'll Be a Forgetting."

Unfortunately, the band's formation ended with the death of Scott Weiland in 2015, but the band has continued on with new vocalist, Jeff Gomes.

Today, the band still tours and performs, spreading their brand of stonerock music to the masses.
