King of the Land of Uruk, ruler of the people, slayer of the Bull of Heaven... but mostly just a dude who really liked his dad's beard.
He was a demigod, you know. Son of the gods, but not actually a god himself. Like, he had some godly powers and stuff, but he wasn't all-powerful. That would be boring.
Gilgamesh and his best bud Enkidu went on a quest to slay the Bull of Heaven, which was basically a giant monster that was terrorizing the countryside.
They fought it and won, but then the gods were all like, "Hey, you guys are too powerful, we're gonna send a flood to wipe you out." And then... well, you know. The end of the world. But not really. Because, you know, Gilgamesh was like, "Hey, I'm a king, I can do whatever I want." And the gods were all, "Okay, fine, you can live, but not forever." And then... well, you know. The story continues.
But wait, there's more! You can also read about: Utnapishtim, the dude who lived under the water, or Enkidu, the real hero of the story.
