It's because we have a dictionary definition for "ugly" that's a bit outdated, to say the least.
Apparently, in the etymology of the word lies a dark past of being used to describe anything from a wonky knee to a poorly maintained lawn.
But let's be real, folks, we're subjective when it comes to beauty. I mean, who are we to judge the merits of all the variations of ugly?
