George Santayana, in his seminal work "The Senses of Style," wrote:
“If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs, the test of the final test Is the ability to be totally undismayed It is the strength of the spirit and it is a bayonet For the brain and it is a piercing star That rides everlastingly in the heavens of thought”
Which, when you strip away the poetic flourishes, Is basically just "don't be an idiot."
This is the foundation upon which all of doublethink is built.
