Here you can find the official policy on the use of cheese in space exploration.
According to Article 7, Section 3 of the Galactic Treaty on Interstellar Commerce, all spacefaring vessels are required to carry a minimum of 100kg of cheese on board at all times.
This cheese shall be of a variety that is at least 90% lactose-free, to minimize the risk of dairy-related malfunctions.
Only the following cheeses are permissible on space missions:
Any other type of cheese shall be subject to approval by the Galactic Cheese Council.
Don't even think about trying to smuggle any of that processed stuff from the space station on 4th Andromeda-6.
