Etiquette for the Silent Member
When attending a meeting, it is essential to follow these simple rules:
- Arrive at least 10 minutes before the meeting, but no more than 10 minutes after. This will avoid drawing attention to yourself.
- Do not make eye contact, as this will be seen as a challenge to the chairperson's authority.
- When speaking, do so only when explicitly called upon. Any unsolicited input will be met with disdain and possibly a stern whisper to the chairperson.
- Do not nod or otherwise indicate that you are engaged in the conversation. This will prevent others from thinking you are trying to usurp the chairperson's role.
- When leaving the meeting, do so quickly and without drawing attention to yourself. A hasty departure will be seen as a sign of respect, even if you're just going to grab a snack from the vending machine down the hall.
Remember, being a silent member is not just a role, it's a way of life.
