The Leap Second Ratio Explained

It's not just a random collection of seconds, no, no, no.

There are 86400 seconds in a day. That's a lot of seconds.

But what's this leap second thing, you ask? Well, it's not a leap year thing. It's not a leap of faith thing. It's just a single second added at the end of December 31st.

We add 1 leap second every 4 years. That's right, it's like clockwork. You know, for timekeeping.

So, if you want to get all fancy, you can do the math:

1 leap second / 4 years = 0.25 leap seconds / year

That's not a lot, but hey, it's better than nothing, right?

Or, you know, you could just not care and just enjoy the extra second, like it's a free gift from the universe.

But, let's be real, the universe doesn't give us free gifts. That's just not how it works.
