We're not exactly sure what happened, but it appears that someone has managed to create a localized temporal anomaly that's causing time to move at 1/100th of the normal speed.

This has resulted in the following issues:

Scientists are having trouble getting anything done because their coffee has been sitting on the shelf for weeks, not hours.
The local cat has grown to the size of a small dog due to the accelerated aging process.
The internet connection is incredibly fast, but only because everyone has been stuck in this loop for so long.

But wait, it gets worse! The anomaly is Chrono- Chaos is spreading to other dimensions, causing a rift in the fabric of space-time.
