Exceptional Animals: Dune Worms

The Dune Worm, also known as Sand-Surfing Worms or Worm-Henge, is a species of worm found only on the most inhospitable of planets - Arrakis, the desert planet of Arrakis.

Reaching up to 10 meters in length, these worms have adapted to the extreme conditions of the desert, using their thick, black, armored skin to shield themselves from the scorching sun and toxic sandstorms. Their burrowing abilities allow them to tunnel deep beneath the surface, where the temperature and humidity are slightly more hospitable.

Interesting Facts:

• The Dune Worm can survive for up to 3 weeks without water, relying on stored moisture within its skin.
• They are able to produce their own oxygen through a process called "worm-respiration".
