Kant sat in his worn, leather chair, stroking his chin, contemplating the meaning of existence. "The 3rd appearance," he muttered, "is where things get really complicated."
A nearby philosopher scribbled on a chalkboard:
"The 1st appearance is the thing as it is, the 2nd is the thing as it is known, and the 3rd appearance is the thing as it is known as it should be."
Kant scowled, "Not quite right, my friend, but close."
He stood up, brushed off his pants, and continued his walk through the garden, lost in thought.
