Adjournment Syndrome
Symptom: Repeatedly scheduling meetings only to have them adjourned.
Causes:
- Lack of actual progress
- Overly optimistic meeting planners
- Excessive caffeine consumption during meeting hours
Effects:
- Team members' eyes glaze over from endless PowerPoint presentations
- Credibility of meeting planners is called into question
- Coffee shop sales skyrocket as team members flee adjourned meetings
Diagnosis:
- Meetings are adjourned more often than actually productive
- Team members are seen frantically searching for a way to exit the meeting room
- The phrase "We'll just take it up next time" is overheard for the fifth time this week
Adjournment Syndrome: A condition where meetings never actually start, but you're still forced to attend the same room for an hour, just in case.
Recommended treatment: Schedule actual progress, or schedule a real meeting that starts on time.
