Meeting Minutes: Snack Food Sustainability Scorecard
Sustainability Scorecard for Meeting Snacks 2023
Methodology:
Using a proprietary algorithm, we calculate our Snack Food Sustainability Score by weighing the following criteria:
- Carbon Footprint (30%): How much CO2 was produced during snack production, transportation, and disposal.
- Water Usage (20%): How many liters of water were used in snack production, packaging, and processing.
- Resource Efficiency (30%): How effectively the snack food industry uses renewable resources like corn, soy, and sugar.
- Supply Chain Transparency (20%): How clearly the snack food industry discloses its supply chain, sourcing, and manufacturing practices.
Current Score: 42/100
Breakdown of scores:
- Corn Chips: 8/10 (High carbon footprint due to palm oil sourcing)
- Pretzel Bites: 9/10 (Low water usage due to minimal packaging)
- Popcorn Kernels: 6/10 (High water usage during processing, but good resource efficiency due to locally sourced corn)
- Crackers: 4/10 (Poor supply chain transparency due to lack of labeling)
