Article 6: The Futility of Consensus
Section 1: The Agony of Agreement
- Meetings that go on for hours, only to end with a unanimous decision to do nothing.
- Decisions that are made by committee, because, well, that's just what we do here.
- And, of course, the inevitable "let's just table that for now" that turns into a 3-month-long discussion.
Section 2: The Futility of Progress
- Projects that start with a clear goal, only to morph into a never-ending stream of features and sub-features.
- The constant need for revisions, rewrites, and re-re-re-reviews.
- And, of course, the inevitable "it's not ready yet" that becomes a mantra.
Section 3: The Futility of Change
- We've been doing it this way for years, and we'll just continue to do so, because, well, why fix what ain't broke?
- Change is scary, and we're not sure we can handle it.
- So, let's just stick with what we know, and hope it doesn't break.
And that's where we are today.
