Eternal Darkness Reborn as PlayStation 1 Clone: A Review
It's been a while since I've seen a game that's truly captured the essence of the PlayStation 1, and Eternal Darkness Reborn is it. This game is a loving clone of the classic, with all the charm and flaws that made the original so beloved.
As a fan of the original, I was a bit skeptical at first. But after spending some time with Eternal Darkness Reborn, I'm convinced that it's the real deal. From the moment you power on, you're greeted by the familiar sound of the original's startup sequence, complete with the same annoying beeps and chirps that'll drive you crazy.
Graphics-wise, it's...well, it's not exactly the prettiest game out there. But it's got the same blocky, pixelated charm that made the PS1 a staple of 90s gaming. And the controls? They're as wonky as ever, with the same wonky analog sticks and shoulder buttons that'll make you wonder how you ever managed to play for hours on end.
But it's not all bad. The gameplay is, well, still a bit wonky. But in a good way. It's like the game is trying its best to be a PS1 game, and it's succeeding admirably. And the music? Oh boy, the music is pure ear-bleachingly- good. It's like they raided the soundtrack of every other PS1 game and mashed it all together into this glorious mess.
All in all, if you're a fan of the original, this game is for you. It's not perfect, but it's a worthy tribute, even if it is a bit of a mess. Read the full review
