When faced with the inevitability of an interminable meeting, remember:

• Excuse yourself with a well-timed, yet vague, "I have a prior commitment"
• Or, feign an emergency: "I have to attend to a family member's unexpected appendectomy"
• Cite a sudden, mysterious illness: "I've come down with a nasty case of 'Meeting Fatigue Syndrome'"

Remember, the key is to be believable, but not too believable.
