Rats are highly social creatures, and socialization is key to their development. In this chapter, we'll cover the essential steps to raising a well-adjusted rat.
First, provide your rat with a stimulating environment, complete with:
- A minimum of 5 hiding places, including cardboard boxes, paper bags, and a few carefully placed cat toys.
- A rat agility course, featuring a minimum of 5 obstacles, including tunnels, ramps, and a ball pit.
- A rat playdate schedule, with at least 2 playdates per week, featuring a mix of rat and human interaction.
