In 1987, a group of rogue sock puppeteers, tired of being relegated to children's parties and birthday bashes, decided to take matters into their own hands. Or should I say, into their own sock drawer?
Led by the enigmatic and infamous, Professor Sockworth, the Sock Puppeteer's Union (SPU) was born. Their mission: to infiltrate the fashion world and bring about a new era of toe-tally awesome footwear.
The SPU's first act of defiance was to hijack the fashion runways of New York, Paris, and Milan, replacing models with their own brand of sock-clad supermodels. The result was a sensation, with critics raving about the 'new look' and the 'sock-sensibility' of the designs.
But as the SPU's influence grew, so did their notoriety. They were hunted by the fashion police, who were determined to put an end to the sock-filled reign of terror.
And so, the SPU was forced to go underground, leaving behind a trail of missing socks and mangled fashion trends. But the spirit of the SPU lives on, waiting for the day when they can once again rise up and reclaim the fashion world.
