When in Doubt, Just Pretend You Didn't Hear That

For when you're in a meeting and someone says something you didn't want to hear, try the following:

• Stare intensely at your notes.
• Tap your pen on the table.
• Make a "uh-huh" noise while nodding.

For when you're in a conversation and someone says something you didn't want to hear, try the following:

• Say "That's not what I meant."
• Change the subject to something completely unrelated.
• Walk away slowly, whistling.

And remember, if all else fails, just pretend you're a robot.
