Snack History
The 1970s: A Decade of Disco, Dinosaurs, and Doritos
It was a time of polyester suits, big hair, and even bigger snack dreams. Here's a brief history of the 1970s:
- 1970: The decade starts with the moon landing, which somehow makes sense when considering the moon's vast, untapped resources for snack storage.
- 1971: Doritos, the crunchy tortilla chip that changed the world, hits the market and promptly becomes the snack of the people.
- 1972: The first microwave oven is invented, because who needs cooking when you can just nuke it?
- 1973: Disco fever hits the clubs, but not before it gets replaced by the real fever: the fever for snack food.
- 1974: Pop rocks and lava lamps become a thing, because what's more fun than a glowing, bubbling, snack-filled nightmare?
- 1975: Jell-O, the snack that's 99% sugar and 1% regret, is invented.
- 1976: The decade of excess, where snack food is the only thing that matters. And by excess, we mean, "excessively large amounts of snack food."
- 1977: The year the 1970s really get weird, with the prophets of the apocalypse predicting the end of all that is good and snackable.
And that's a wrap, folks! The 1970s: a time of wonder, of discovery, and of snack-filled nightmares.
