Subpage 1-2: The Unraveling of Social Fabric
Researchers at the Sock Institute have discovered that the proliferation of arguable justification for wearing mismatched socks may lead to a decline in social cohesion.
Study participants who wore contrasting socks to work reported a 3.4% increase in office gossip, a 2.1% decrease in productivity, and a 14.7% rise in reported instances of "awkward small talk."
A parallel study found that those who wore matching socks, however, exhibited a 0.8% increase in reported feelings of belonging, a 1.2% decrease in reported stress, and a 4.5% increase in reported instances of spontaneous hugging.
