The Sock Sorting Algorithm

Version 7.1

Overview

Sort your socks into neat little piles with our proprietary Sock Sorting Algorithm, version 7.1.

Our patented process involves assigning each sock to a specific category based on its:

Procedure

Step 1: Gather all your socks and place them in a large bin.

Step 2: Sort by matchingness.

  1. For each pair, determine if it is a matching pair or a single, lone sock.
  2. If matching, place it in the "Matched" box.
  3. If single, place it in the "Singles" box.

Step 3: Sort by color.

  1. For each pair, determine if it is a pastel, neon, or a dull earth tone.
  2. Place pastel pairs in the "Pastel Pairs" box.
  3. Place neon pairs in the "Neon Pairs" box.
  4. Place dull earth tone pairs in the "Dull Pairs" box.

Step 4: Sort by material.

  1. For each pair, determine if it is cotton, polyester, or that weird fuzzy stuff.
  2. Place cotton pairs in the "Cotton Piles" box.
  3. Place polyester pairs in the "Poly Piles" box.
  4. Place fuzzy stuff pairs in the "Fuzzy Frenzy" box.

Step 5: Sort by smell.

  1. For each pair, determine if it has a fresh, musty, or that one weird smell that's just...off?
  2. Place fresh pairs in the "Freshly Breezy" box.
  3. Place musty pairs in the "Musty Mishmash" box.
  4. Place off-smelling pairs in the "Ewww, That's Gross" box.
