The Ancient Origins of the Spoon
In the dawn of civilization, humans used crude, jagged sticks to scrape their meals from communal pots. These primitive utensils were the first spoons.
Fast-forward to 3000 BCE: the ancient Egyptians develop the first true spoons. These were made from polished obsidian and featured elaborate hieroglyphs.
The Greeks and Romans perfected the spoon, crafting them from sturdy metals and decorating them with intricate patterns.
But it was the Vikings who took the spoon to new heights – literally. Their spoons were often used as makeshift snowboards in the frozen tundras of Norway.
And so the spoon continued to evolve, becoming the versatile tool we know and love today.
