Pharaohs Who Hired Contractors Who Expected Tip Credit

The ancient practice of paying contractors for their work, only to expect a 10% tip on top.

It's a tale as old as the pyramids themselves. A pharaoh would commission the construction of a grand monument, only to deduct a "consulting fee" from the contractor's wages. And then, just for good measure, they'd expect a 10% bonus for "good service".

Meet some of the most egregious offenders:

Ramses II

Pharaoh Ramses II was notorious for his stingy ways. He'd pay his contractors a pittance, only to deduct a 20% "consulting fee" for his "expertise".

But that wasn't enough. He'd also expect a 10% tip for "good service", because, apparently, being overcharged by 20% wasn't enough.

Khamunefar III

Pharaoh Khamunefar III was a bit of a cheapskate. He'd pay his contractors a fraction of what they asked for, only to deduct 30% for "architectural fees".

But that still wasn't enough. He'd also expect a 15% tip for "good taste" in design.
