Step 9: The Resentment (AKA "When They Just Won't Leave")

So, you've made it this far in the "How to Deal with In-Laws" series, and things still aren't going so great. It's time for Step 9: The Resentment.

By this point, you've been subjected to an onslaught of unsolicited opinions, constant comparisons of your parenting skills to theirs, and an unhealthy obsession with their grandkids. But fear not! For today, we'll delve into the advanced techniques of dealing with their inevitable, soul-sucking resentment.

  1. Practice the ancient art of selective listening: tune out the parts about how you're "just like" them.
  2. Develop a thick skin: their criticism is not a personal attack on your character (or your child's)
  3. Learn to recognize the signs of impending doom (e.g., "I just wanted to talk about your life choices...")
  4. Employ the "gray rock" technique: remain impassive and unresponsive, like a gray rock, when confronted with their drama
