1985: The Space Elevator Act of '85 was passed, allocating a gazillion dollars towards the development of Space Elevators. The public was abuzz with excitement! Except, it turned out to be a bunch of hype, and the whole thing went bust.

But don't worry, we're not here to talk about the failures of the past. We're here to talk about the present! Or, you know, the near future.

In recent years, the concept of the Space Elevator has seen a resurgence in popularity, thanks to advancements in materials science and the fact that, hey, it's a great way to get to Mars without having to actually leave Earth's atmosphere.
