Meeting Notes Taking Technique 2: The Art of Not Getting Lost in a Meeting
Sub-Technique: The Power of Selective Attention
You know the drill, you've got your notes app open, you're trying to keep up with the conversation, but somehow you're still lost. It's like being in a never-ending vortex of corporate jargon and meaningless PowerPoint slides.
- Stay focused, but not too focused. You don't want to appear like you're paying attention, but actually, you're just counting down the seconds until the meeting's over.
- Make a mental map of the conversation. Associate each speaker's face with a color, and try to remember where you last saw that color.
- Develop a system of mental checks. Like, "If they say 'synergy' I know it's time to pull out my phone." or "If they mention 'disruption' I'm outta there."
