The age-old question: is adjournment a verb or an noun?

Some say it's a verb, a way of putting off the inevitable. Like, "I'll adjourn this meeting till next week, maybe."

Others say it's a noun, a state of being. "The adjournment of the committee meeting was a real adjournment."

But what does it really mean? Is it a way to procrastinate or a state of suspended animation?
