Appendix B: The Art of Saying No
It is a little-known fact that saying no is an art form. It requires finesse, subtlety, and a hint of disdain. When executed correctly, saying no can elevate the conversation, make the other party question their life choices, and leave a lasting impression.
- Use the phrase 'I'd rather not' whenever possible, as it implies that you're not simply opposed to the idea, but rather, you're opposed to the idea of being opposed.
- Avoid direct eye contact, as it's a known trigger for the other party to become invested in your response.
- Employ the 'I'll get back to you on that' tactic, as it buys you time to contemplate your next move while appearing non-committal.
