Deception Techniques: 3. Manipulative and Exploitative

The art of using underhanded tactics to get what you want.

Manipulative and Exploitative tactics are often employed by those with a certain... let's say, "flexibility" in their moral compass.

Example: Using a friend's birthday as an opportunity to get them to do your laundry.

A person with a 'concerned' expression, holding a laundry detergent box

"Hey, buddy, I'm really worried about you! If you're not doing your laundry, it might just get all moldy and start a fire!"

Example: Using a fake 'study' to justify a ridiculous purchase.

A person in a lab coat, holding a clipboard

"According to my totally-not-made-up study, 9 out of 10 people who buy this product report a significant increase in their sense of self-worth!"

Remember, these tactics are not to be taken lightly. Use them responsibly, or risk being called out for being a sociopath.
