Bread Wars 3: Player 2 - The Great Crust Conundrum
A recipe for the ages: Garlic-Infused, Bacon-Wrapped, and Covered-in-Gold-Leaf Brioche
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 6 slices of thick-cut bacon
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
Instructions:
- Mix and knead the dough for 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough, and cut into 12 equal pieces.
- Place each piece into a greased 8-inch round pan, and bake at 375°F for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the bread is baking, prepare the garlic-bacon-gold-leaf topping.
- Melt 1/4 cup unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat, add 3 minced garlic, and stir until fragrant.
- Add 6 slices of thick-cut bacon, and cook until crispy.
- Sprinkle 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut onto the top of the bread.
- Remove the bread from the oven, and top with the garlic-bacon-gold-leaf mixture.
- Cool for 10-15 minutes, or until the topping has set.
