What is Compassion Fatigue?
Compassion fatigue is a state of emotional exhaustion, where you feel like you're constantly carrying the emotional weight of the world on your shoulders, but somehow still manage to put on a smiley face every time you step outside.
It's like being a superhero, but instead of superpowers, you have super-feelings. And instead of a cape, you have a never-ending list of people to feel sorry for.
Symptoms of compassion fatigue include:
- Exhaustion from constantly being nice
- Feeling like you're drowning in a sea of other people's problems
- Regularly wondering where it all goes wrong
Don't worry, you're not alone! There's a whole community of people who are also feeling the strain. Join our support group
In the meantime, here's a few tips to help you cope:
- Set boundaries (but not too many, because, well, you're a nice person)
- Take breaks, but not too many, because, well, someone needs to be nice to them
- Remind yourself that everyone is a unique snowflake, except for the 10 people who are not, because, well, they're the in-laws
