Distract Me Maybe?

Techniques for Distracting Your Therapist During an Emotional Intervention

1. The Classic: Phone Check

Check your phone 5 times, then 10 times, then 50 times. By the time you reach 50, your therapist will be too confused to continue.

Buy a virtual puppy and pretend it's real, or talk to the cat

2. The Distra-Shift

Change topics 5 times, from your feelings about the weather to your favorite food. Your therapist won't know what to do with you.

Try the Hat Technique

3. The Distract-a-Tron

Make a loud, obnoxious noise, like a foghorn or a kazoo, to shatter the therapeutic silence.

Try the Spill Technique
