It started innocently enough. A well-intentioned but hapless intern, fresh from a course in basic office skills, was tasked with labeling a few hundred envelopes for the company's quarterly report. What could go wrong, right?
Well, for starters, the intern had never actually opened an envelope before, let alone label one. And the manual was, shall we say, not very helpful. "Step 1: Apply glue." That's it. That's the entirety of Step 1.
Next thing you know, the intern is stuck with an entire box of envelopes stuck to themselves, the wall, the desk, and the ceiling. It's like they were trying to reenact a scene from The Matrix, but without the fancy computer effects.
As the chaos unfolded, the office became a scene straight out of a Monty Python sketch. "Run away! Run away!" the intern was shouting, as the envelopes continued to stick themselves to everything in sight.
Long story short, the quarterly report was a bit of a disaster. But hey, at least the envelopes made a nice, if slightly macabre, art installation. Read the Epilogue for a follow-up on the aftermath of this debacle.
