It all started with a group of daredevil teenagers who, inspired by the likes of Evel Knievel and Steve McQueen, began performing death-defying stunts on their water skis. They were known as the "Flipper Guys" and were a sensation in the 1950s and '60s.
But as the years passed, the Flipper Guys' antics became increasingly erratic. They began performing stunts with live animals, including a memorable incident in which a Flipper Guy rode a water ski while balancing a chimpanzee on his back.
As the 80s and 90s dawned, the Flipper Guys' popularity began to wane. They attempted to reinvent themselves as a " extreme sports" group, but their stunts became more and more outlandish. One particularly disastrous attempt involved a Flipper Guy trying to break a world record for longest duration of holding one's breath underwater while wearing a pair of flippers.
Today, the Flipper Guys are a shadow of their former selves. They still perform stunts, but now with a focus on charity work, particularly with aquatic conservation efforts. But rumors persist that some of the original Flipper Guys have gone rogue, still performing death-defying stunts for personal gain.
