Hyperlink History: Ancient Civilizations
It all started in the land of Mesopotamia, where the Sumerians developed the first recorded hyperlink in 3500 BCE. They used clay tablets to connect their temples and marketplaces, paving the way for the information superhighway.
Fast forward to 1000 BCE, where the ancient Greeks created the first known hypertext link between the Oracle of Delphi and the Temple of Apollo. They used a series of intricately carved stone pillars to transmit messages across the city-state.
Then, in the 5th century CE, the Romans perfected the art of hyperlinking with their impressive network of aqueducts, roads, and messengers. They even used it to deliver pizzas.
But it wasn't until the dawn of the internet age that hyperlinks became the lifeblood of modern civilization. And that's the story of how the hyperlinked world came to be.
