Why Bother with Labels?

Our store has a plethora of labels, but what do they even mean? Is that "Buy Me" sign for the discounted items or the "Do Not Buy Me" sign for the items that are secretly on sale? The truth is, we're not really sure either.

Labels in Supermarket: A Brief History

It all started with the "New" label. Someone thought it was a good idea to highlight new products, but it quickly spiraled out of control. Now we have prophets of doom and gloom, shouting "Clearance" at the top of their lungs, while "Limited Time Offer" labels are mere whispers of a desperate attempt to part with our inventory.

Labels in Supermarket: The Future

We're working on it, but it's not looking good. Our current trend of labeling seems to be "Whatever We Can Get Away With," with labels like "Almost-Expired" and "Sort-of-Still-Frozen" appearing on a growing number of items.
