Imagine being a foreigner in a new country and seeing a sign that says "DANGER: DO NOT ENTER". You look around and see a group of locals laughing and playing in the middle of the road. You try to ask them what it means, but they just shrug and say "oh, it's just a joke".
Or how about this one: "FREE HUGS". Sounds nice, right? Wrong. It's actually a warning sign for a nuclear power plant's radiation zone. Who knew "free hugs" could be so deadly?
These are just a few examples of the countless misadventures that can happen when language gets lost in translation.
