It started with a good idea: a portable, self-contained music player that could hold up to 45 minutes of music. Sounds great, right? But, as we all know, the devil is in the details.
First, there were the tangled messes of tangled tracks, the endless searching for the perfect song, and the inevitable jamming of the mechanism. But we persevered, convinced that our love of music would overcome these minor setbacks.
Then, came the rise of the cassette tape, with its convenient compact design and ability to hold up to 60 minutes of music. Ah, but that was just the beginning of the end.
The 8-Track's demise was sealed with the advent of the CD, followed closely by the iPod, and then the Spotify.
But, we remember the good times. The hours spent rewinding, the endless fast-forwarding, and the occasional satisfaction of finding that one perfect mixtape.
