It's time to talk about the glorious, the fantastic, the completely impractical, 8-Track tape player. In the 1960s and 70s, these spinning behemoths of sound took the world by storm (or at least, by a really loud, obnoxious boombox).

Why 8-Tracks Were the Best

They were portable, sort of. As long as you had a car battery to power them.
They had a certain... je ne sais quoi. A charm that was equal parts annoying and mesmerizing.
Who needs a CD player when you have a spinning wheel of wonder?

When 8-Tracks Took Over the World (Sort Of)

From 1975 to 1987, 8-Tracks were at their peak. They were everywhere. In cars, in boomboxes, in bedrooms. It was a world where the only thing more popular than the 8-Track player was the 8-Track tape itself.

But, as with all good things, 8-Tracks came to an end. Or did they?
