Over-Engineering 1: The Quest for Perfection
Chapter 1: The Never-Ending Loop of Optimization
It all started with a simple problem: a 3D printing project that refused to yield to the laws of physics. The designer insisted on using 17 different materials, 27 custom fonts, and 43 different colors. And then, they asked us to make it 10 times faster, 5 times stronger, and 20 times more efficient.
Little did we know, this was just the beginning.
Our team of über-optimizers set out to solve the problem, armed with an arsenal of over-engineering tools and a healthy dose of hubris.
We added more layers, more threads, and more... well, more more.
But, as the great philosopher, The Philosopher King, once said, "You can't over-engineer your way to perfection, but you can over-engineer your way to bankruptcy."
So, what's next? Over-Estimation 1: The Art of Fuzzy Math, anyone?
