It's because of existential dread, of course.
We meet because we're all trapped in a meaningless void, searching for scraps of meaning to cling to.
We meet to commiserate, to share our existential dread and find some fleeting sense of connection with one another.
And, let's be real, it's also because we need someone to share our Netflix password with.
So, we meet, and we try to make sense of it all.
