Philosophy for the Uninitiated
Chapter 1: The Basics
What is philosophy, really? Is it just a bunch of old guys sitting around talking about the meaning of life? Nope. It's actually a bunch of old guys sitting around talking about the meaning of life, but with more beards.
Here are the basic tenets of philosophy:
- 1. Reality is not always what it seems.
- 2. The meaning of life is not always what you think it is.
- 3. The only constant is change (except on Tuesdays).
And here are some famous philosophers who will make you laugh, cry, and question everything:
- Socrates: The guy who was all like "I know nothing!"
- Plato: The guy who was all like "I know everything, but only because I read all the time."
- Kierkegaard: The guy who was all like "Life is suffering, but at least the beer is cold."
