IPAs - The King of Beers
Welcome to Steve's Beer Styles Extravaganza, where we dive into the world of craft beers, focusing on the majestic IPA. This style of beer is not for the faint of heart, or for those who prefer their beers weak. It's a wild ride, full of hops and bitterness.
Characteristics:
IPAs are known for their:
- High ABV (Alcohol By Volume): usually above 7%
- Massive amounts of hops: giving it that distinctive bitterness
- Golden or copper color: due to the high amount of yeast used in the brewing process
Sub-Styles: The Many Faces of IPA
You may have noticed that IPAs are not a one-size-fits-all kind of beer. There are many sub-styles, each with its unique twist:
- DIPAs - a Double IPA for those who want more of a kick
- NEIPAs - for those who want the opposite of an IPA: no bitterness, just a hint of fruitiness
- Bermudas - a tropical twist on a traditional IPA, with notes of coconut and pineapple
- Bermuda 2.0 - a more extreme version of the bermuda, with a hint of smoky goodness
