Technique 9: Stockpiling
Welcome to the most essential technique for the modern homesteader. Stockpiling is the art of collecting and storing supplies for the impending apocalypse, or just for when the neighbors run out of toilet paper.
Step 1: Gather your materials. You'll need:
- Non-perishable snacks (at least 1 year's worth)
- Bottled water (enough to fill a swimming pool)
- First aid kit with an emphasis on painkillers and sedatives
- Underground bunker with adequate ventilation
Step 2: Store your materials. You can use:
- Shelves in the basement
- Underground storage containers
- Old school bus converted to a subterranean pantry
Step 3: Diversify your stockpile. Think:
- Multiple water sources (rainwater, well, etc.)
- Backup generators (solar, wind, etc.)
- Alternative energy sources (hand-cranked bicycle generator)
