As a time-traveler with a toaster in hand, you find yourself in the midst of ancient Greece. The scent of olives and fresh bread wafts through the air. You've arrived just in time for the Olympian Games of 400 BCE.
But, of course, no one knows what a toaster is, so they're all confused. "What sorcery is this box that produces warm bread?" asks one of the puzzled Greeks. You explain that it's a Time-Traveler-Toaster-3000, a marvel of modern technology.
As the Greeks begin to grasp the concept, they start to ask questions like "How do you make the bread not burnt?" "Can it make olives too?" and "Can it make Ambrosia?" (A popular ancient Greek dessert, of course).
You, being a resourceful time-traveler, decide to whip up some Kylix (a type of ancient Greek bread), but with a twist: you use the toaster to make a batch of crispy, golden-brown Time-Traveler's Crackers.
You hand them out to the curious Greeks, who are amazed by the taste and texture. Word of the Time-Traveler-Toaster-3000 spreads quickly, and soon you're mobbed by people begging for your Toasty Delights.
But as the days go by, you start to feel a pang of homesickness for your own time. You realize that you've got a Toasty to go, and it's not just the toaster that's going to make the trip.
So, you pack up the Time-Traveler-Toaster-3000 and get ready to return to your own time, leaving behind a trail of Toasty fans and the faint scent of Olive Oil.
