Claim to have a cat
When faced with an invitation to a meeting, feign that you have a feline overlord that demands your presence elsewhere. This technique, while not foolproof, has been known to buy you some time to plan your escape or reschedule the meeting.
Side effect: May lead to guilt trips or follow-up calls from the meeting organizer, who's suspicious of your newfound "cat lady" status.
