Gloopernacks is a web application designed to revolutionize the way people connect with each other. A mashup of Bebo and Friendster, Gloopernacks combines the most basic of social features with an aesthetic that screams "I have a MySpace, but I'm not a poser."
Our goals for Gloopernacks were twofold: to create a site that was as simple as possible while still being as obtrusive as possible. We wanted users to feel like they were interacting with a Hot Topic store's website, but not, like, actually be at a Hot Topic store.
We aimed to make a site that would make users feel both nostalgic and annoyed.
Our design process involved copious amounts of caffeine, a few too many late nights, and an unhealthy amount of arguing over what color to make the background of the "About Us" page.
We employed a team of highly trained, yet slightly disillusioned, designers who were tasked with creating a site that was both functional and aesthetically displeasing.
Profiles allow users to share their thoughts, opinions, and poorly-lit selfies.
Polls enable users to ask each other questions that no one actually cares about.
Gloopernacks is a shining example of what not to do when designing a social media site. It is a testament to our team's dedication to creating a product that is both visually jarring and intellectually stultifying.
